Guide Program

Ranger Program Overview

The Ranger Program is made up of Challenges divided into 8 Program Areas. Girls can earn the Ranger Cookie Challenge Pin, Ranger Service Project Pin, and the Chief Commissioner's Awards - Bronze, Silver and Gold. Rangers can also earn the Commonwealth Award.

To be enrolled as a Ranger, girls need to:
  • Know and understand the Promise, Law, Motto, Sign and Handshake
  • Set and carry out a personal challenge
  • Develop a purpose statement of what they hope to achieve during their time as a Ranger

Program Areas
Each Program Area has a series of suggested activities. Rangers take these activities and create a challenge that meets the objective of the program area. If none of the listed activities interest a girl, she can create her own challenge activity that meets the program area objectives.
The Program Areas are:
  • Celebrate Guiding
  • Community Connection
  • Environment, Outdoors and Camping
  • Explore Your Creativity
  • Global Awareness
  • Healthy Living
  • Leadership and Management
  • Your Future

Ranger Cookie Campaign Challenge Pin
Cookie sales are the primary fundraiser for Girl Guides of Canada. All members participate in two campaigns per year - chocolatey mint cookies in the fall and chocolate and vanilla cream cookies in the spring. The Ranger Cookie Campaign Challenge assists girls in developing skills in event planning, money management, communications, public speaking and customer service through cookie sales. To earn this pin, Rangers must take an active role in supporting at least 4 cookie campaigns. This includes ordering cookies, planning selling events, tracking sales and money, and ensuring that all cookies are sold.

Ranger Service Project Pin
Service is a key part of the Guiding program from Sparks onward. To earn the Ranger Service Project Pin, girls undertake the planning, organizing and following through on a service project of approximately 20 hours.
